Andrew College Men's Basketball Makes a Statement; Beats Ga. Highlands 68-62 On The Road
ROME, Ga. -- The Andrew College Fighting Tigers (16-5) earned a hard fought road win over GCAA rival and NJCAA Div. I ranked #24 Georgia Highlands (18-4) in a 68-62 shootout in Rome, GA on Wednesday night. Down eight points at halftime, the Fighting Tigers rallied to a come-from-behind victory against the first-ranked team in the GCAA to earn their second consecutive win. Sophomore Jalin Wimberly led Andrew College with 18 points, nine rebounds and eight defensive rebounds, while two other Fighting Tigers were in double-digits in the points category, with sophomore Marcus Kirkland scoring 12 points and freshman Kristian Collins finding the net for 10 points. Freshman Jordan Booker helped feed the scoring with eight assists on the night.
Impressive as it may be to defeat Georgia Highlands on the road, who have won the GCAA regular season, for four consecutive years, Andrew Head Coach Justin Newton made it clear that his and the team's focus was on their next opponent, not what comes after, stating, "We are exactly halfway through the conference season and the league is wide open," said Newton, "so nothing is guaranteed or determined."
