Kane's No Hitter, Krak's One Hitter Lead Chargers to Sweep
The Chargers took a midweek doubleheader sweep from USC Salkehatchie on Tuesday, but the 18 runs the offense produced was not the story. A pair of incredible pitching performances marked a historic and nearly unprecedented day. Nic Kane got the ball in game one and struck out 14 hitters en route to the third no hitter in program history. It was Kane's first start of the season, and he was nearly perfect, walking just one batter in an overpowering performance. If one dominant outing wasn't enough, Kaiden Krak took the ball in game two and picked up right where Kane left off. The freshman righthander took a perfect game into the final inning. After retiring the first two hitters in the inning, a pinch hitter for Indians slapped a ground ball through the four hole to spoil the perfect game and record Salkehatchie's first and only base hit of the afternoon. Krak finished off the Indians one batter later and the Chargers wrapped up a day in which the pitching staff faced only two hitters over the minimum.
The Chargers will be back in action this weekend as they host a three team round robin with Wabash Valley and Macomb CC this weekend. See the schedule for the weekend below:
