Georgia Highlands College men’s basketball earned its second conference win in three games Monday, edging South Georgia State College 62–58 in a rare weekday GCAA matchup. The contest was a makeup date from the snow-out two Saturdays prior. With the victory, the Chargers improved to 3–5 in league play while the Hawks slipped to 5–3.
The game stayed razor-close throughout, with neither team ever stretching the margin to double digits. GHC’s largest lead came at halftime with a five-point cushion, while South Georgia State’s biggest advantage was seven midway through the second half.
Holding onto a slim two-point lead with just two seconds remaining, Joshua Bryant (Dominion Christian) calmly knocked down a pair of free throws to put the game on ice. Bryant also led the Chargers in scoring with 13 points. Braylen Smith (Augusta Christian) added 11 points and a team-high eight assists, while Landen Williams (Grissom HS) contributed 10 points and a team-best five rebounds.
Georgia Highlands begins the second run through the conference schedule Wednesday at Gordon State. The Chargers previously topped the Highlanders 81–79 in Rome on January 7.
