Women’s Cross Country to Debut This Fall
Georgia Highlands College Director of Athletics Dr. Nicole Levering has announced that women’s cross country will officially join the Chargers’ athletics program this fall as a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) sport. The team will compete in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA), with recruiting and meet scheduling already underway.
“I’m excited to announce the addition of women’s cross country to the GHC athletics program,” said Dr. Levering. “With our scenic and well-designed course on the Floyd campus, I look forward to recruiting talented female student-athletes who are passionate about competing at the collegiate level.”
The Floyd Campus at Georgia Highlands is already home to a premier cross country course that regularly hosts high school events. This year, Rome High School will host two meets on the course—one in August and another in October—underscoring the venue’s readiness for collegiate-level competition.
Women’s cross country becomes the fifth varsity sport offered at GHC and the third women’s sport, joining softball and volleyball. It also paves the way for future growth, with women’s flag football set to begin competition in Fall 2026.
Student-athletes interested in joining the women’s cross country team—or future Chargers flag football team—are encouraged to contact Clifton Puckett at cpuckett@highlands.edu.
